3 Reasons You Need To Be Eating Salmon

Including salmon in your diet can be one of the greatest choices you make for yourself nutrition-wise. Labelled as one of the best foods to include in your meals, regularly eating salmon has an abundance of positive effects for your health. Here are the 3 main benefits of eating salmon:

1. Great source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Salmon is one of the richest sources of Omega-3 fatty acids which is deemed to be an essential fat, meaning that you need to get them through your diet as your body can’t make them.

This is associated with several important health benefits

  • Strong anti-cancer properties
  • Reduction in systemic inflammation and chances of suffering from stroke and hypertension
  • Increased efficiency of several brain functions including memory
  • Related to diminishing risk of depression and cognitive deterioration with old age

2. Contains high amounts of Vitamin D

Having the right amount of Vitamin D is crucial to your body and the maintenance of good health. Being deficient in Vitamin D can lead to greater chances of cardiovascular diseases, type-1 diabetes and even certain types of cancer.

Due to the richness of Vitamin D you can find in salmon, just one serving contains a days’ worth of Vitamin D. With so many of us staying inside offices and schools during the day, getting Vitamin D through sunlight is often not sufficient and including foods like salmon in our diets can help make up for this.

3. High in Potassium

Salmon contains a higher amount of potassium than an equal amount of banana, a food known for its high levels of potassium. This is particularly true of wild salmon.

Potassium is important for keeping our blood pressure under control as well as preventing excess water retention within our bodies, thus decreasing the risk of things like strokes.

I hope this short article has helped you see why salmon can be such a helpful addition to any diet. Loaded with great vitamins and minerals, it’s one of the healthiest sources of protein you can have while also being a delicious and incredibly versatile option to indulge yourself with.

  1. I totally agree. I just started eating salmon over the last year as I’m not a big fan of seafood or fish. But salmon and shrimp are the main ones I eat. Salmon is so good for you
